A+ Certification is a testing program sponsored by CompTIA that certifies
the knowledge and technical competency of entry-level computer service
technicians. A+ Certification is a non-vendor, non-product specific
certification program. It provides an industry-recognized and valuable
credential that may open doors with prospective employers or lead to job
advancement opportunities. The program is supported by major computer
hardware and software vendors, distributors, resellers, and publications.

Technologies. The A+ course offered at Network Professionals Training Group
is a four weekclass that prepares students to take the two A+ exams: Core
Hardware (220-301) and OS Technologies (220-302).
Audience
A+ Certification is an ideal program for anyone who wishes to gain a basic
understanding of computer network technology. The course is suited for
novice computer users who have basic knowledge and experience with PCs and
are looking to upgrade their skills in order to successfully perform as an
entry-level computer service technician.
Prerequisites
CompTIA recommends the computer literacy skills earned by completing the
Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC3 or equivalent knowledge.
These skills include core operating system, key applications and
introductory network and Internet literacy.

Acquired Skills
A+ Certification training will help you troubleshoot, install programs, use
DOS, Windows 9x, Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP and their
applications, as well as master skills in formal problem solving. You will
also gain the benefit of hardware knowledge such as CPUs, memory, storage
media, modems, network interface cards (NICs) and peripherals.
Requirements
The A+ Certification is composed of passing two exams - Core Hardware (220
- 301) and OS Technologies (220 - 302) - is required. Students may take the
exams at different times until the exam content and objectives change to
pass both portions. The Core Hardware exam tests the student's knowledge of
software interrupts, peripheral installation issues, electromagnetic
discharge, and other basic hardware skills. The Operating Systems exam
covers such topics as OS installation, the boot process, troubleshooting,
and the basics of PC networking. You are allowed a maximum of 90 minutes
testing time to complete each A+ exam. The A+ exams are graded on a scale
of 100 – 900. The minimum score for the A+ Core Hardware exam is 515 and
the minimum score for the A+ OS exam is 505.
